About
Dr. Esther Monzó is a Professor in Legal Translation at the University Jaume I. She is also an official sworn translator and a temporary translator at the Geneva office of the United Nations and other international organizations.
Her research focuses on the sociological aspects of translation. In her PhD thesis (2002), she applied a theoretical framework built from contributions from the sociology of professions and Bourdieu’s social theory to the analysis of Spanish and Catalan sworn (certified) translators.
She has also worked on the textual analysis of legal genres, notably real estate conveyances, and on the use of CAT tools in legal and official translation.
She has practiced as a sworn and official translator (mainly legal and economic texts) and as a copy editor for several companies and institutions.
She has been training legal translators for over a decade at the University Jaume I.
